Ben Calkins has raised sheep continuously since 1964. For the Calkins, sheep are all about family. Ben raised sheep as a 4-H project, an activity he very much enjoyed and clearly found invaluable. Ben’s first sheep was a Polled Dorset ewe named Susan, given to him by his parents. All four of Ben’s children followed in his footsteps and actively participated in 4-H and sheep projects. In fact, the Calkins children have won the highly coveted overall Grand Champion trophy a total of 15 times! (Not that we’re proud or anything!)
Not only did sheep become a family activity, the sheep themselves are also like family to the Calkins. We take great pride in our farms and our sheep and give them the best care possible.
